			Why use essential oils? Natural personal care products with essential oils are important to our entire well being. The skin is the largest organ of the body and readily absorbs what we apply to it. Essential oils are in total biochemical harmony with the human body. We only use pure, plant based essential oils to provide fragrance for our At Peace Bodyworks products for a variety of reasons.First, what you put on your body should be as nourishing as what you put in it. We also believe that synthetic fragrances cannot duplicate the richness, complexity and aromatherapeutic benefits of products that use essential oils. Natural, plant based products also promote harmony and balance. Using body care products with therapeutic, aromatic essential oils elevates our daily rituals in both tangible and immeasurable ways. Some researchers have even found an almost immediate physiological response within 20 seconds of application of essential oil products to the body. Can these benefits be achieved with synthetics? Essential oils contain hundreds of trace elements that are balanced in subtle and complex ways that cannot be duplicated effectively with synthetics. For comparison, think about the differences in the sweet aroma and flavor of natural honey compared to the overpowering, one dimensional sweetness of artificial sugar sweeteners. You'll notice the same differences as you acclimate yourself to the lingering, natural complexity of essential oils and compare them to their synthetic counterparts. I've heard that some essential oils are so volatile that they can leach into or permeate plastic bottles; is your packaging safe? Yes, we are very careful to use plastic bottles that will safely protect our oil and lotion products without fear of the essential oils permeating the plastic. If you turn over any of our oil or lotion bottles you will see embossed on the base the letters PETE along with a triangle with the number one inside. PETE bottles, unlike HEPA plastic bottles, are safe to use with essential oil products. Not all essential oils permeate plastic, but we only use PETE bottles to be on the safe side. In addition, we further protect the integrity of our custom essential oil blends by using jewel colored bottles that have a sunscreen like effect which further protects the essential oil blends from any alteration due to light exposure. Essential oil products are also safely packaged in glass as well. Checking bottles to see what kind of plastic is used can be a quick and easy way to see if natural essential oils are used for fragrance in a product. If the bottom of a plastic container says HEPA, chances are good that the product uses synthetic fragrance elements rather than pure, essential plant oils. Which essential oils are used in At Peace body care products and what are their attributes? Pure plant based essential oils have been used for thousands of years to relieve stress, enhance relaxation, refresh the spirit and rejuvenate the body. The fragrances of our At Peace Bodyworks products are derived entirely from these pure life-enhancing essential plant oils. Here's more information about the value and attributes of some of the essential oils that we blend to create our exclusive, aromatic fragrances: Bergamot: Citrus aurantium bergamia Bergamot oil is a popular citrus oil that often comes from Italy and is best known for its uplifting and clarifying properties. Coriander: Coriandrum sativum The exotic and rich spiciness of coriander oil clears the mind and energizes the body. Ginger: Zingiber officinale Native to Asia, ginger oil refreshes and invigorates both the mind and body. Sage: Salvia officinalis Once cultivated in monastery gardens during the Middle Ages, the virtues of sage and its calming, relaxing properties have been appreciated since Roman times. Lavender: Lavandula angustifolia This unforgettable fragrance is native to the Mediterranean region and since the days of ancient Greece for its calming effect. Lemongrass: Cymbopogon Citratus A delicate and fragrant herb native to SE Asia, with a soothing lemony aroma. Spearmint: Mentha viridis Spearmint oil, native to the American Mid-west, is well known for its refreshing and calming aroma. Is there anything else I should know about handling or using essential oils or personal care products with essential oils? We think it's worth mentioning here that citrus oils can be photosensitive and should not be applied to skin that will be exposed to the sun for an extended period. And remember too that essential oils are volatile and while their use can be therapeutic, if you have burned or damaged skin, or skin allergies, you should probably check with a physician prior to using them. Finally, don't forget to avoid using any product that contains essential oils near polished or painted wood surfaces.
